Pediatric Neurologist

Today was the day that I took oldest kiddo to the Pediatric Neurologist that works at the Children’s Hospital in Macon. He is Dr. Trasmonte and he is very good at what he does. Among other things, he conducts research for the National Institutes of Health on conditions such as P.A.N.D.A.S. (no, it’s not a bear this time). This is an autoimmune disorder that is brought on by the presence of antibodies to strep bacteria. You guessed it, I only know this because oldest kiddo also is affected by this!

One of the very best things about homeschooling to me is that we greatly reduce our exposure to strep (among other things).

So, here is what I learned.  The EEG was normal.  What kiddo is experiencing could be a mild-ish seizure or a complex motor tic.  But, the only way to really tell is to do a 48 hour EEG (with kiddo being wired for sound at home) so that we can definitely catch one of these little episodes on tape.  From there we should get some answers.  Maybe.  Sort of.

So, in two weeks, kiddo gets wired for sound (not that having stuff stuck to him for 2 days will be fun for an Aspie kid who can’t stand to have stuff on him and wouldn’t wear clothing, except for warmth,  if we didn’t force the issue).

Can’t wait for phase 2!

Till next time,

Eeek, what a tough little situation for him! I hope it works and they’re able to figure it out quickly. How stressful that autism rarely, if ever comes alone. There is always something else… something on top of it. When it rains, it pours.

    Continuing to pray!
