My First Quilt Along Blocks

Okay, I jumped the gun a little bit….  And then I changed the rules up some….

But, hey, isn’t that what you expect from little ol’ me?

To start with, the first week of Crazy Mom’s Quilt Along started last Monday (July 11th) and it really only talked about yardage requirements and quilt size options.  We haven’t gotten around to the official, here is how to do the quilt block kind of thing, yet.

So, the new post will go live today.   But, I couldn’t wait.  I have fabric literally everywhere around here while I have been working on making charity quilts.  So, I figured it couldn’t hurt to use up a little bit extra….

Did I mention that this pattern really isn’t written to use up jelly roll strips? Yet, I find myself with oodles of strips.  So, I started sewing and cutting…only to realize that the reason that jelly roll strips aren’t a great choice is that two strips can’t make an entire 36 patch block, close–but not quite.  So, what’s a resourceful gal to do?  Yep.  I can make two 16 patch blocks from two jelly roll strips.  So I did.Another Hatchett Job blog, quilting

So, now, I am making 16 patches while participating in the 36 patch Quilt Along.  Makes perfect sense, no?

I mean, the spirit of this whole thing was to use up stash, and right now, 2.5 inch strips is what I need to move out of my stash the most.  Pronto!   I will have to make more blocks, but the basic idea is the same.  I am using up stash and making a (probably) lap sized quilt with the group.

That being said, I am in this thing until Amanda Jean sees what I am doing on the Flickr group (as soon as I figure out how to upload), quits laughing hysterically, and kicks me out personally.  So, since she probably has way more to do that worry about how I am personally changing up her Quilt Along out of the necessity of using strips from my stash, I figure I am good.  For now.

Ooh!  I just found more fabric in the same colorway.  More blocks to follow–soon!

Till next time,
