Living Well Wednesdays, 4/6/11

Welcome back to my little spot on the web for another check in for Living Well Wednesday, a meme hosted by Natalie Collinson of Coffee, Cupcakes, Cards…Oh My!  I hope you can take a moment out of your day to check out Natalie’s site and what the other participants are up to this week.  I am always inspired by everyone else and their accomplishments each week.

You may have noticed that this week’s update does not include a vlog post.  Sorry about that.  Storms ravaged Georgia on Monday night and we have been without power for now 33 hours and counting (I am using my parent’s computer to get this update out on the correct day).  That means, no heat, no light, no water and grumpy kids.  Yay, me!  Okay, no heat is only a problem overnight and in the early morning, but still…  {Update, after 37 hours, power is back on, but internet went out, thus the very late posting.}

This week, I have noticed that my oldest son has been having more of the episodes that doctors suspect are actually mild seizures.  The EEG is scheduled for Friday morning.  I am praying hard that power will be on by then because that will mean some seriously miserable time (kiddo can only sleep from 1 am to 5 am that night and with no power, that’s gonna be tough!).  Monday we should get the verdict about what is happening with him.  But, this is really tough on a kid who wants to learn to drive next year.  With seizures, the state won’t let him even learn how.  Pretty disappointing for a teen.

Then there is my foot.  My right foot, to be more exact.  I twisted my foot last Thursday night.  It was a little sore.  I walked out at a track that is in Griffin on Saturday and again on Sunday evening.  That’s when my foot really started to hurt and throb late into the night.  So, off to the doctor I go (thank God I had painted the nasty toe-nails.  A bad home-grown pedicure is far better than no pedicure at all!).  Nothing showed up on the x-ray (hairline fractures seldom do), so I am to rest and wait for a week or two and if no improvement go back in for a second x-ray.  I could deal with that part, but I was totally floored when the doctor told me that the crack in my right ankle was beginning to heal very nicely?  What???  Apparently, I walk around on cracked foot and ankle bones more than even I realized.  Then, I got the bomb shell that I have enough arthritis in my foot that I probably have chronic pain that I don’t even notice anymore (which is starting to drive up the ol’ blood pressure, so back on those meds I go) such that I can crack my ankle and not notice this.

How am I supposed to exercise?  Wheelchair aerobics, anyone?  Good grief!

Well, that is this week  in a nutshell.  I am just keeping on for lack of a better plan this week.  I do hope (and pray fervently) that things will calm down after we find out about kiddo and the possible seizures.  Until then, it’s run like crazy all day and Vicodin at night!

Till next time,

Jan, I will never be able to tell you how much I adore you. I just spit water all over my desk reading about a “home grown pedicure”… you are SO Southern, and I absolutely love you for it!

Praying for your little dude – keep us posted please.

And wow on the chronic pain – my Dad was told the same thing after he finally blew out his shoulder last year and had to have M-A-J-O-R surgery on it. Craziness.

    Many hugs Diva!

      Lynsey,
I would have expected you to spit “sweet tea” and not water, but you are doing so well on your goals! I am truly impressed. I tried to post a photo of the pedicure, but the computer ate it. Trust me, it didn’t look like a pro did it!

  2. Oh Jan, I just love your style of writing.

Even with all that you are going through this week, you still make me smile :o )

I sincerely hope that you get good answers for your son, keep us updated won’t you.

Thank you for joining us again this week – I appreciate everything you did to post as it clearly has not been easy! Live Well x

Okay it worked this time. I can comment. Just wanted to say that it’s a bummer to be injured when you are on a healthy journey. Do you have pain when you stand on your foot/ankle? If not, then I do think yoga would be great for you. It is low impact and a good instructor in your area can give you some modifications if something does hurts your foot while practicing. I used to do many work out classes (and still should do more) but doing mostly yoga has helped keep me fit and I cannot say enough about how good it is for your balance and alignment. I teach a parks n rec class here in my city (formerly called community ed) and also sub at the YMCA. Are either of those places available for you to try some classes? There are always yoga studios but they tend to be more $ and a bit intimidating to newbies. And videos are really hard to follow not to mention are hard to ask questions to. I encourage you to try yoga if you are at all interested. But first check with your doc and make sure he gives his okay to it of course. If you need any advice or have questions my home e-mail is tmspaulding@sbcglobal.net.

We are out in a pretty rural area, so we don’t have a YMCA or anything like that. But, I can look around for some classes. A couple of churches have classes that are open to the public (and usually $3-5 per class) so that might be an option. I will look into that. Right now, the sprained part of my foot hurts if I stand on it for more than a few minutes. But, that should pass fairly quickly (I hope). Thanks!

    Oh Jan -

I am so sorry about your ankle & foot -I will just add that to my prayer list!

Since I am reading your blog from most recent to previous – I am glad that the test went well yesterday.

    • Jan Hatchett says:

Thanks Belinda! Fortunately, my foot is starting to feel better today, so it may truly be a sprain. I am so hopeful that it will be just that. Funny, but the ankle is stiff, but not really painful. Go figure.
