Living Well Wednesday 3.7.12

Welcome back to this week’s installment of Living Well Wednesday, a meme hosted by the lovely and talented blogger, Natalie Collinson.  Each week, bloggers link up to discuss how they have fared that week toward reaching goals that they have set for themselves.  We hope you will join us over at Natalie’s blog and either participate with a post, or check out what we are up to this week.

This week has literally been up and down.  I lost a couple of pounds and then gained a couple in the last two days, to make for a change of zero.  Of course, no change is better than a real gain, so I am pleased with that part, but bummed a tad about not showing a loss like I did earlier in the week.  At least it is not a mystery why it happened.  I am struggling with self control.  I am an emotional eater and I am working to break that cycle.  Like I have said a million times before, baby steps!

I have done the Zumba on Wii 3 times this week, so that is positive.  I would like to move that closer to 4 or 5, but for now, it is okay.

We are trying to eat at home more, which is always a bit problematic for me.  I am not a very good or inspired cook, although I have yet to kill (or seriously harm) anyone foods that I

prepare.  Needless to say, the kids and hubby aren’t always thrilled with the outcome, but that’s life, I suppose.  Maybe I will inspire one of the kids to become a world class chef (to avoid eating my food)!  A girl can dream, right?

But, in an effort to make our meals healthier, I have been relying more on things like kale and collard greens in addition to the standard veggie fare of salads, green beans, and peas at our house.  Plus, I have found that pre-cut celery, broccoli spears, and baby carrots are working for fast to grab snacks.

How are you incorporating healthier meals this month?

Hi Jan… Lol on your comment that you haven’t killed or seariously harmed your family *yet) with your cooking. Summer is coming so you can grill outside soon. Also, I found a few “very easy” cookbooks – one was a “hamburger” book and the other was a Campbell’s Soup cook book. Both were “board” books so durable. I found those to be helpful… so maybe you could find a “easy” cookbook to try.

I also love the pre-cut veggies…good to maked cooked vegatable dishes as well.

I am going to say I wish I had a wii to zumba off of… but I go to youtube and put in the names of the oldies I used to dance to way back then and dance my “do-nothing stool” off. So, yeah… I’d say any kind of dancing is great for firming and toning.

I enjoyed your post… You write really well and it’s like I am in a conversation with you… Thanks!

I love the simple cookbooks. But, with me, it’s not lack of ideas, it’s lack of interest I am afraid. I am trying, for my family’s sake, to get better at it!

I’m with you on the dancing! Love it and the Zumba style core moves will even leave me sore the next day. Just need to do more of it!

I have found a great cookbook series that has some tasty options (they’re called something like 3 Ingredient dishes, 4 Ingredient Dishes–something like that). I’ve given them to my nephew & he has actually cooked my sister some tasty dishes from them!
Keep up with your WII; eventually things will turn around for you I’m sure! The fact that you’re being consistent with it is great–that’s my problem, I start something but then allow Life to get in the way!
