Friday Favorites 1/28/11

Hi!  I am so excited to be a part of this new meme sponsored by Kim at www.kimberscorner.com!  Each week, we will post about a favorite….well, a favorite something!  I think it will be fun getting to know each other while reading our weekly updates.  So, let’s go!

This week’s topic is favorite blog.  That’s a tough one because there are so many that I follow and enjoy.  I just don’t think I can narrow it down to only one, so I will choose two from different areas of my life.

I love the blog, the Party Plan Coach, by Lynsey Jones of Party Plan Divas fame.  I actually think that I found this blog from a google search before I ever had learned of Party Plan Divas.  Now, I am enjoying the PPD message boards, but originally, it was through this blog that I first began to realize that I could apply the lessons that I was learning in a meaningful and organized way to my life and fledgling business.

Bonnie Hunter,As for the more crafty parts of my life, I am absolutely in love with Bonnie Hunter’s blog.  Bonnie is the genius behind the Quiltville site and an inspiration for quilters in how to use scraps and “ugly” fabrics to make beautiful quilts without breaking the bank.  She is the inspiration behind my Dad’s Christmas gift this past year, a lap quilt made from thrift store, er, make that vintage men’s shirts.  I am now collecting shirts in red, white, and blue to make a quilt for my oldest son’s double bed in a sawtooth star pattern.  I would have never realized what a wealth of good quality quilting materials were readily available at a reasonable price (and often free).  With quilting fabrics costing over $9 per yard (and climbing), it’s nice to find materials at about 80% off!  Plus, when you have two sons, like I do, the cutesy fabrics that I love are just too girly for them.  I still buy new materials, don’t get me wrong, but using scraps and other sources of fabrics has stretched my skills and creativity and I am a better quilter for that.

I sure hope that you get a chance to check out these blogs.  See you next week!

How fun…and a great way to show your different “sides.” I find it funny that all moms of “boys” deal with the “too girly” thing when it comes to our creative side!

I agree with you…Bonnie Hunter is a quilting rockstar! Her use of recycled fabric is revolutionary–especially when quilting for boys. And she is so generous with her patterns, and advice…she’s be my #1 pick as well. I like the new site….

I know. I think I may have first stumbled upon Bonnie’s site after seeing some of the quilts from vintage shirts that you had made. I think that got me inspired and looking for more ideas!

Thank you for telling us about Bonnie @Quitville. I am going to pass this site on to my mother. She is a wonderful quilter!

Ooh! I didn’t know your mom was a quilter. How awesome is that? I’d love to see some of her quilts. Tell her that I hope she enjoys Bonnie as much as I do!
